In this presentation, Dr. Aaron Thompson explains the “life of a WSIB claim, describes health care programs provided by the WSIB, and explains how return to work services function at WSIB.

About The Speaker:

Dr. Aaron Thompson is an Occupational Medicine Specialist Physician. He completed his Occupational and Environmental Medicine Residency and Master of Public Health (MPH) degree at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and completed his Canadian Residency training and Fellowship at University of Toronto. He is licensed to practice medicine in the province of Ontario and has Specialty Certificationin Occupational Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. 

Dr. Thompson holds the rank of Associate Professor at University of Toronto, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, with cross-appointment to the Dalla Lana School of Public Health. He served as Program Director of the Occupational Medicine Residency Training Program at University of Toronto for 10 years. His clinical practice is at St. Michael’s Hospital / Unity Health where he is a staff physician in the Division of Occupational Medicine in the Department of Medicine. 

Dr. Thompson is Chief Medical Officer of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) of Ontario. The WSIB is one of the largest insurance organizations in North America, covering over five million people in more than 300,000 workplaces across Ontario. Dr. Thompson has worked as an Occupational Medicine Physician in Industry and as a Roster Physician for the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal. He is Vice Chair of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) Occupational Medicine Specialty Committeeand serves on the RCPSC Examination Committee.
